CDP, a global non-profit which runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions, recently recognized Farmer Brothers as a 2022 Climate Change Supplier Engagement Leader. The recognition places Farmer Brothers among the top 8% of global companies who are playing a crucial role in the transition toward a net-zero sustainable economy by working directly with their suppliers on climate change issues.

CDP assesses performance on supplier engagement using each company’s response to questions on governance, targets, Scope 3 emissions  and value chain engagement in its CDP Climate Change questionnaire. Last year, Farmer Brothers continued expanding its sustainability efforts with the opening of a new distribution center, continuing to grow its Project D.I.R.E.C.T. and making other changes to achieve our Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reduce our carbon footprint.

“We were able to make significant progress in reducing our carbon footprint in 2022 with the opening our Rialto, California, distribution center,” said Chief Executive Officer Deverl Maserang, ”Since beginning operations last year, the facility has allowed us to reduce product delivery miles by 42% and more efficiently serve our largest regional client base.”

This marks Farmer Brothers third straight year on CDP’s list. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and more than 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions toward a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.

“We are incredibly proud of the work we have done over the decades to increase sustainability and lower our overall environmental footprint. The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change calls climate change “a threat to human well-being and planetary health.” It’s why we do not see sustainability as not something which has a finish line,” said Senior Manager of Sustainability Daniel Cifuentes. “It’s something we will always be striving to grow and improve upon.”
